So does this presuppose that there can be two destinies then? Which of the two can make you The Greatest – “Destiny or DESTINY”? Which makes you greater in real life?
Destiny through your Diligence, Determination, Focusing on a Goal and Hard Work
DESTINY through your God given Gift/Talent, Personal Development and Commitment
I will use a real life example to try to break this down and answer the question.
Who is Greater – Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?
I will say both of them equal and rival each, but by bias I will say, Ronaldo is a greater achiever, he worked and achieved both in England and Spain through dedication and determination. He is Goal Focused and works harder than everyone else on the team in training and in each game and all these together have helped him become who he has become today.Hence, Ronaldo took his destiny into his own hands and worked hard to become great!
Messi on the other hand, was born with so so much talent to be great, he’s played only in one team, in one league and he trains just like his team mates. Hence, because of DESTINY, Messi was born great.
This reminds me of two very powerful scriptures which deliver the same results;
1) Seest though a man that is Diligent in his business he will stand before Kings and not mere men – Proverbs 22:29
2) The Gifts of a man will create room for him and bring him before kings and not mere men – Proverbs 18:16
From the above Scriptures, it’s evident that both Diligence and Gifting delivers you to kings. However with both in play, you can GUARANTEE that:
a. You are consistently set apart from your closest competition and you stand shoulder higher than competition. You are not found operating and living at the level of mediocrity with other average mere men.
b. You consistently operate and live in the League of Great men and Kings
Judge for yourself what you want, and how you will become the greatest in your chosen field of endeavor.
If you have the time, HERE is a comparative analysis on these two great players that may guide you with a decision on what path you should take to Greatness.
Many have argued that Messi is superior to his great rival because of his God-given Gift, but Ronaldo should be lauded for his Dedication and Hardwork.
Messi was born with his quality gift, which has been further developed in terms of technique, dribbling and skill, while Cristiano Ronaldo has had to work much more on his physical condition and training to improve his play and increase in strength and agility. Because it’s not easy to calculate who is better because there’s no system to measure quality and inspiration, we can only subject-fully evaluate who’s the greatest by what each player produces on the field.
“The only bad thing about Cristiano Ronaldo’s life is Lionel Messi. If it were not for him, Ronaldo would have won the Ballon d’Or five years in a row.” – Felipe Scolari
“Ronaldo is the best in the world, but only because Messi is from another planet” -Arda Turan(Atletico Nadrid midfielder)
“There is Messi, and then the rest”- Franck Ribery( Bayern Munich Winger)
In all sincerity based on statistics provided, there is very little to choose between the two. In terms of character it is perceived that Messi is quiet, unassuming and humble, while Ronaldo is flash, self-absorbed and arrogant.
Ronaldo is the personification of the Belief that one can achieve anything he sets him mind to achieve. He has mastered the game of Football through sheer Professionalism, Diligence, Focus, Hard Work and Dedication.
Messi is seen as out of this world, according to Javier Mascherano who said: “Football controls us; Leo controls football.”- Javier Mascherano
“The young man who would succeed must identify his interests with those of his employer and exercise the same diligence in matters entrusted to him as he would in his own affairs. Back of all the gifts the candidate for success may possess must be a willing capacity for hard work. . . . Youth today, is not considered a handicap in selecting men for responsible jobs, as it was twenty years ago. In almost any field today in which a youngster has an intelligent interest, the road to the top is open as it never was before. But the one way to the top is by persistent, intelligent, hard work.-A. T. Mercier
So in Conclusion; here are a few tips to success:
“Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.”
“That which ordinary men are fit for, I am qualified in. and the best of me is diligence.” –Shakespeare
Identify your God given DESTINY and create your own Destiny, Hence;

- Don’t rest on your oars
- Don’t be lukewarm.
- Create a Life Goal and be Committed to Diligence, Focus, Determination, Development/Training and Consistency with your Gift and you will find yourself in the Land of The Greatest.
I wish you the very best!
